Yes: Most ovarian cysts are "functional" (develop during normal ovarian function). They can come and go, and often will. Sometimes they will persist for months.  They need to be removed if they are symptomatic (usually pain), do not resolve over time (3-6 months usually), or are suspicious to not be functional (based on sonogram/ct/mri findings). Cysts before puberty or after menopause are different.

Doctor can examine: Vaginal discharge is anything coming from the vagina that is more than the scant amount of normal mucous that healthy women have. A discharge that has odor may be an infection with germs such as bacteria, trichomonas, gonorrhea or chlamydia (discharge worsens as infection gets worse). A woman in her 40's can see the same doctor who does her Pap cancer screening, for an exam and maybe medication.

Yes safe: Laparoscopy is a very safe procedure , will go home on the same day after the procedure , relatively painless, no incision scar,  done even in children if indicated , speak to your doctor.

Yes: Ovarian cysts can definitely interfere with cycle. Being overweight/obese can definitely cause women to miss cycles as well, due to excess estrogen.  Being obese as you know puts at increased risk for a lot of cancers and other health problems. At 34 you can do it, make the change and get to healthy weight.  You want to live long!

I am sure your: Doc told u that is not serious as many women have that , if the cysts would grow which is unlikely then it could be a problems but that rarely happens if u have small functional cysts, if your periods are irregular or other problems that can often be treated with bc pills unless you are trying for pregnancy.

hi. 25 year old female. mri found a 6.6 cm ovarian cyst. is this likely to be cancer? i was told surgery will probably be needed for risk of rupture?

Accepted Answer

: If the ovarian cyst is shown to have complexities within the cyst, a biopsy is required to make sure of the cellular constituency.  If the cyst is a simple follicular type (w/o complex structure), it may rupture spontaneously, and surgery is not usually necessary. Ask your gyn physician about low dose oral contraception, if appropriate, bcp's will reduce the likelihood of cyst recurrence.

Infertility ?'s : Left flank pain should be evaluated by your gyn physician.  Infertility after successful pregnancy (with the same father) is most frequently a result of blocked fallopian tubes.  Ask your gyn physician about a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) which can determine and actually "cure" obstructive tubal disease in many instances.  Ovarian cysts do not cause infertility, but can cause pain.

Urogynecologist: Consider seeing a Urogynecologist or a Urologist who has expertise in female issues. They can do a complete evaluation. Urodynamics -- a computerized analysis of voiding --- can be done if needed to determine the cause and treatment.

Cyst: Cyst on ovary may be a type that goes away on its own - a functional cyst - or a benign growth that will need surgery to remove. Seeing what the cyst does over the next few months will show which it is. The blood tests show you are getting near to menopause but not there yet.

Ovarian cyst: A cyst (follicle) ruptures each month as you ovulate.  Sometimes, especially when you are young or as you get older, the follicle (cyst) that contains the egg that you should ovulate grows bigger and the egg inside stops developing.  The cyst ruptures and causes more fluid to release and that causes the pain you feel. There are other reasons to have cysts as well so find out if it happens again.
