Sore gums: Much discomfort after extraction comes from the body's reaction to the surgery. This reaction is called inflammation. Whether it is medically needed treatment, or just an accidental trauma, the body can not distinguish. In both cases the body react to it with inflamed tissue. Your gum is undergoing inflammation, which cause both pain ; healing response within body. The gum swells up ; become sore.

Vertical Fracture: If the tooth has broken as you described, it is most likely hopeless and needs to be extracted immediately. Call a dentist at once to make an appointment and avoid a slow, painful process of swelling, pain, and infection. In the end, the tooth will still need to be removed. go back to the dentist and have it evaluated.

: You can chew with that tooth so the root canal was successful then your problem is due to gingival inflammation either from gingivitis or irritation with poor crown fitting. You can apply oragel (teething gel) as often as needed for discomfort then call your dentist for further advice. Good luck!

YES: Canker sore can appear anywhere in the mouth.  The sores are a result of a virus and usually take about 2 wks to run their course.

Be patient: After removing some hyper plastic tissue with a laser post operative discomfort should be expected for a few days. Keep the area clean and rinse with warm salt water whenever possible. You'll be fine.
