best remedy to stop toothache pain at home? i've heard of orajel. is that the best way to deal with minor toothache pain at home, or are there other, better things?

OTC : Otc pain meds will temporarily relieve your symptoms, but you need to determine why you have a toothache, and get it fixed, or it will get worse.

The only way to do that is to make an appointment with your dentist.

can my pregnant wife use ambasol or oragel for a toothache?

Accepted Answer

Yes: These are topical medications and so not get absorbed at high levels systemically so they are safe.  Use only amount recommended.

Sometimes:: It's a topical anesthetic, and so it will deaden pain if it's in contact with the exposed nerve.

Accepted Answer

Use it judiciously: Orajel contains Benzocaine in strengths of 10% to 20% which help relieve pain for mouth sores. This can be used to alleviate the pain for a few days, but if the symptoms do not get better, a dentist needs to be consulted. Oragel should not be used in kids less than 2 years.
Oragel sore mouth rinse can be used by swishing to debride and clean the mouth.

i have a toothache due to broken tooth. i can get to a dentist until payday, how can i get rid of the pain until then? side note orajel isnt working.

Pain: In Canada you can ask the pharmacist for Tylenol (acetaminophen) #1 which will help the pain. Make sure you are taking antibiotics. Use compresses. Fell better soon.

Orajel: Not necessary to worry about it. It's just a topical anesthetic and the amount ingested should pose no problem.

Call : Call an urgent care center or go to the nearest hospital er, then follow with a dental appointment asap.

i've had very bad toothache pain over the weekend my dentist prescribed amoxicillin figuring with the pain not being able to be eased my tylenol or orajel its an infection i got the antibiotics today but the pain isn't as bad should i still take it?

: If you stop tylenol and pain comes back then you should start taking antibiotic.

Can't swallow: Go see a doctor now if you cannot swallow. If you have significant swelling in your throat, it could block your windpipe. Also, if you can't swallow, you will soon get dehydrated and you may need IV fluids until you can swallow water.

Every : Every dentist who has treated me in the past, considers severe tooth pain to be urgent. If your dental clinic becomes aware that you are suffering from severe pain, i would be surprised if they did not find a way to get you seen. If you have been too busy, to make an appointment, i suggest that you try to make it a priority. Depending on the location, what feels like a toothache might actually have a different cause. For instance, feeling pain into the tooth area with a maxillary sinus infection.
