Many: Generally optimistic people are more happy and spread that happiness to those around them.  Some think it improves internal body function and certainly helps the day to go by better.  As long as the optimism is not obvious in the face of things that are not so optimistic.

And, investing in a relationship, by spending more time together, keeping each other up to date on events, working on mutual goals, etc. Determines how close you are in the relationship.

Yes: Each time their mood changes they have to learn to live with their new emotions. It is not easy. Also, if they have a mixed mood state they can find themselves experiencing  optimism and pessimism simultaneously and this can be extremely confusing to the individual.

Feeling Good: There are several types of depression.  Reactive depression occurs as a result of loss and eventually we adjust.  If one does not adjust or if the cause is not clear certainly seek professional help.  "feeling good" by david burns is an excellent self-help book based on science.  Don't let the thickness of it intimidate you.  Take it bit by bit.  The very best to you.  Masturbation is not cause.

Relax: You don, t have to be an enlightened guru to practice a simple meditation technique called "mindfulness". Take a deep full breath (hold one hand on your belly and one hand on tour chest). Your belly should expand and your chest remain still. Pick up a flower, a stone, or a piece of chocolate.  Get into a comfortabble position. Close your eyes and pay full attention to the object in hand for 5 min.
