i have bipolar disorder i take medications zyprexa, (olanzapine) lamictal and depakote 500 e.r and i smoked hash weed with medications sometimes i need an advice?

Bipolar Treatment: The research clearly shows that people suffering from bipolar disorder have the best outcomes with a combination of medication and psychotherapy.  Psychotherapy should occur for an hour at least 1 or 2 times a month and sometimes more often during the course of treatment.  Such treatment by good doctors can result in excellent outcomes.  Smoking weed or hash is not associated with good outcomes.

: Medication should be managed by your Psychiatrist. It's a good idea to have a complete physical exam by your PCP to know if you have a physical illness that is causing symptoms. You could be helped by a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in multiple types of psychotherapy. If you are not confident in your Doctor please see another for a second opinion.

Symptoms: The symptoms for which it was prescribed may come back. It is always better to consult your prescribing dr before stopping any meds on your own. No, "de novo", schizophrenia proper can not be primarily caused by an antipsychotic; but again psychotic symptoms (or other) may re appear if they were present before starting this drug.

after taking 5mg of olanzapine to treat mild psychosis i sleep 12 hours instead of 8, since that time(4 years) i still take 5mg and still sleep 12 hours. is the effect of medication that long? or is it a separate problem with sleep?

: Olanzapine is actually used to treat insomnia. Sleeping 12 hours is excessive and, in my opinion,unhealthy. Can depression be contributing to your excessive sleeping? Discuss this problem with your prescribing physician, hopefully a psychiatrist, to see if reducing the dose or switching to another medication is advisable.
