Cipralex & OCD: Cipralex is escitalopram, the same as lexapro.  It comes in 10mg & 20mg strengths, and i don't know which you're taking.  Your doctor is the best one to ask this question, because s/he determines the dose you need by assessing your response over time.  If your symptoms are improving, the dose may be sufficient.  Usually psychotherapy is an important part of ocd treatment also.

Start at lower dose: While higher dose of medication might eventually be needed, you should start at a lower dose after you have stopped medication for a while and slowly work your dose up to the strength that worked for you.

All SSRI's have: Side-effects. In fact, all meds have them. The key:  which one works better to help w/ur ocd? U also mention high blood pressure; is that under control? If not, it could contribute to ur anxiety. Sometimes, ppl misinterpret physical symptoms as anxiety. Research shows our brains can respond to talk therapy as well or better than with meds alone. Have u tried cognitive-behavioral therapy for ocd?

OCD: People vary in their response to medication.  Your doc will likely do a trial on one or the other and you will find out.  :Please do not forget the behavioral aspect of OCD.  Consider seeing a mental health professional who works w/OCD.  An old book called "The Boy who Couldn't Stop Washing" by Rappaport may also be helpful.  Peace and good health.

Both of these drugs: are SSRI's and there is the increased potential for serious side effects. Potential for serotonin syndrome is quite high. Discuss this with your health care provider if it causes you concern. He/She has your whole health and mental health history and is weighing the risks and benefits of this therapy for you.

Lexapro (escitalopram) dose for OCD: lexapro, (escitalopram) an SSRI, is used to treat several anxiety disorders. sounds like ur doc has prescribed it for OCD (obesesive compulsive d/o),for which it is FDA approved. OCD may require hier doses of medication. However, every patient is different. There is no one best dose for every pt. The best dose for u, is the dose that u &amp; ur doc find most effective with the fewest side effects.

Need more: Lexapro (escitalopram) is less likely to be associated with weight gain than other ssri meds.  However usually higher doses of Lexapro (escitalopram) are needed for optimal ocd benefits.

Yes: You were not on an adequate trial. Possibly you would have done better at 20mg per day or even at an off-label dose of 30mg per day.

Therefore, you need to follow up with the psychiatrist who manages your medications  to have your question answered in a meaningful way. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is a mainstay of treatment of OCD. Your psychiatrist can recommend a psychologist, if you are currently in therapy
