Low GFR: My question to is, did you stop the nsaid's before or after your egfr results? If you stopped them after these results were in, repeat your egfr and i suspect it would be higher. Remember, the "e" in egfr is "estimated". To get you actual GFR go to a nehprologist (n) to have 24 hour urine collection for creatinine clearance which will give you your actual gfr. If your egfr's low, see a n.

Q: can zantac (ranitidine) hurt my babies digestion (good flora, acidity , efficiency etc) in the in the long run? how severe should reflux s/s before using zantac (ranitidine)?

No: Babies only need a medication like zantac (ranitidine) if they have gastroesophageal reflux disease. Most with simple vomiting/spit ups, do not have acid that is causing burning or discomfort, & so do not need zantac (ranitidine). Zantac (ranitidine) is an acid suppressant medication, not an anti-vomiting medication. It stops the acid that is causing the burning of the lower esophagus, which leads to the pain and discomfort.

Q: i have d d d & fibromyalgia! with occasional flareups which have lasted, days! its the same with pain in both shoulders always hurt, but sometimes i cant lift my arm! cant take nsaids, i got cyclobenzaprine but it doesnt help! any suggestions?

: This appears complex and presumably widespread. In many cases, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia is erroneous, and the true problem is an occult small fiber neuropathy. If you do have established fibromyalgia, several medications can help. Suggest you see a rheumatologist and get this fully assessed and updated. Physical therapy may help.

Possibly: Both xyzal (levocetirizine) & zantac have anti-histamine effects & may decrease or eliminate a mild reaction to nsaid. However, this can be dangerous. Repeat exposures to something you are allergic to can be more severe, including breathing & swallowing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or mouth. 6 classes of nsaids exist; you may not be allergic to other NSAID classes.  An allergist may help a lot.

Possible but: Even though you only had minor hives before, one cannot predict with certainty whether a severe reaction may occur the next time. Recent studies have shown that all nsaids cross-react if hives were the issue (not asthma). In general, most sensitive people can tolerate cox-2 type of nsaids which must be prescribed. Before you taking any other nsaids, ask your allergist for a challenge test.

its written,ppi takes 2-3 days to kick in but stronger effects over long term, whereas rantidine works in 30 minutes. is zantac more powerful for stomach protection if acute treatment with nsaid therapy to be given only for 1 day? i am sensitive?

: No, both of PPI or H2 blocker 2-3 days to work initially. If you have a sensitive stomach and you receive NSAID only 1 or 2 days, just take the antacid, 10 -15 cc every 6 hours and take NSAID with full stomach. Ranitidine is no longer approved in the US. Some pharmaceutical companies use the name Zantac but the ingredient is Famotidine not Ranitidine.

nsaids gave me very mild hives in the past & allergist wants to desens me by having me take a baby aspirin a day at home. i take xyzal, (levocetirizine) zantac. safe?

Does not work: Whereas desensitization usually works for those with NSAID induced asthma, it does not usually work for hives.
