gingivoplasty - how normal do you look afterwards, if you had receding gums?

It depends on extent: A gingivoplasty intends to alter the current look of the gums.  I am unaware of any procedure that can overcome general gum recession by lowering gum onto the teeth.  In localized areas where clefs exist or loss of attachment occurs gingival grafts, both free and rotated pedicle types work well to overcome loss of attachment provided occlusal trauma is eliminated and excellent hygiene is in place.

when i floss, i noticed i can push the floss below my gumline. is this normal or is it a sign of gum recession?

Extent: There is a 2-3mm cuff of tissue (gingival sulcus) around the crown of each tooth that floss will help clean. Greater than 3mm indicates a problem. See your Dentist/Hygienist for a periodontal examination and review of appropriate Oral Hygiene techniques. Used correctly floss is wonderful, used incorrectly can damage gums. Remember with floss and t'brush to be gentle but thorough.

Periodontist: If you can see areas of gum recession your gum disease is advanced to the point where treatment by a specialist is advisable.  Please see a Periodontist.

experiencing tooth sensitivity a week after i had two fillings replaced. is this normal or am i experiencing this sensitivity due to my receding gums?

Most likely fillings: If your sensitivity started or worsened after the fillings were replaced it is most likely not the receding gums. This Can happen when using white filling and is related to many issues regarding the depth of the restoration, the technique used or the material itself, some time a simple adjustment of the bite can solve the problem. Go back to your dentist .

there were a couple of nights recently where i didn't brush my teeth before bed.normally have great dental habits but i was away.have receding gums.were those events enough to give me cavities at root?or takes more than that?

No, takes more: From what you described, I do not think carious lesions would have formed.

should i have a general dentist do the pinhole surgical technique?  i normally get gum grafts from a periodontist for my constantly receding gums.

Periodontist: I would recommend a periodontist for grafting procedures.  A pinhole graft may be appropriate.  However, it can't be used in every situation.  Let a periodontist guide you in your specific needs.

: It may be gum recession. Although you are young, periodontal issues can affect young adults if their oral hygiene is poor and regular visits to the dentist for routine cleanings are non-existent. If it has been more than six months since your last professional cleaning, it's time to make an appointment.

Depends: Most cases of receding gums can be treated by grafting over the exposed root. You should see a periodontist or gum specialist to discuss with him/her your options. As far as reversing the process i'm afraid that is impossible. Aggressive tooth brushing, grinding or bruxism, and orthodontics may contribute to recession.

See your dentist: If the gums are just slightly receding having a thorough cleaning and scaling of your teeth will help. If the recession is  severe you need to see a periodontist which is a specialist who treats gum disease.

Receding gums.: Treatment for reciding gums could be restore the recession with a ginigival and tissue graft. Consult with your dentist.
