Some consider this more precise and safe than the capsulorhexis that is most commonly used now.  Others think it is an expensive addition which adds time to the procedure and from which the long term results are no better than current methods.

If your main symptoms are leg pain, numbness or weakness and your MRI shows a disc or bony impingement of the nerve that goes to that part of your leg, then you have a reasonable chance of decreasing you leg symptoms.  Results re back pain getting better are much less.

Rarely: The vast majority of  patients who undergo any type of liposuction surgical procedures tolerate the procedure very well. Occasionally, a patient will complain of significant or prolonged discomfort.

Sometimes: Just like doctors, there are good and bad nurses. Some nurses have been performing laser procedures for many years and some just learned at a weekend course. In my practice, I have p.A.'s and nurses that i personally trained and supervise to perform certain laser procedures. I review each case individually and approve the settings before each treatment. I am always available on-site to supervise.

Great question: We did and still do a lot of other things. Technology is fine, but some doctors depend on technology to treat the skin, but they don't understand the skin. Experienced, well-trained plastic surgeons and dermatologists spend their entire life dealing with skin. So we understand that many treatments such as topical medicines, chemical peels & others all still have a place in great skin care.

WHy laser?: Unless one is treating a tumor of the spine, a laser is rarely indicated and is most often used as a marketing technique.

Accepted Answer

PreSurgical meds: I am not a surgeon, but i know you should avoid Aspirin or products containing aspirin. This would include alka selzer, b c powders, pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) as well as other preparations. These substances act as blood thinners and increase bleeding complications. Ginkgo biloba can have similar affects. Be sure and check with your surgeon, they probably have a list of what to avoid. Good luck.

Good question: If you are having smartliposuction with new triplex technology, then the lasers help tighten some skin, imporve extraction, and can reduce bruising.  Please seek a board certified plastic surgeon.
