Laser sculpting: This is the use of a laser (termed femtosecond laser) to cut an opening in the lens for the ultrasonic probe to enter and remove the cataract. Some consider this more precise and safe than the capsulorhexis that is most commonly used now. Others think it is an expensive addition which adds time to the procedure and from which the long term results are no better than current methods.
