Unlikely: Neurogenic bladder poses one to chronic uti.  The angle of the urethra also plays a role.  Pyridium (phenazopyridine) may be necessary to preclude further risks of UTI and pyleonephritis.  Further, colonoscopy or barium enema and ct abdomen/pelvis w/ both oral & IV contrast will provide more information regarding a potential fistula.

resection x2 ileum/colon junction crohns currently active w/ new obstruction. neuro symptoms include ataxia, fisciculation, atrophy, forgetfulness, confusion, mood changes, neuropathy. 6 months. can be linked to small bowel syndrome deficiencies?

Autoimmunity: Perhaps you have several organ systems having difficulty secondary to your Crohn's symptoms and treatments.  Your neurological issues could well be associated with B-12 absorption deficiencies, and suggest you check methyl-melonic acid, B-12, folate amongst other tests.  This appears more involved than just the small bowel.  Uncover answers and much can be restored.

Autonomic: The colon is inervated by sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system. The sympathetic branch relatively shuts down intestinal function, which is superfluous during "fight or flight". The parasympathetic imparts digestive & evacuation functions; overly expressed during ibs. Colon tissues do not arouse pain during cutting or burning, but distention evokes severe pain.

could nerves re-attach after colon surgery with pain involved?

Accepted Answer

Possible: It is possible for nerves to grow and for cut ends of a nerve  to 'find each other.'  but, this is a slow process.  The pain should abate with time after a surgical incision and the work done inside.  Sometimes scar tissue or 'adhesions' may develop which can also be a cause of pain and discomfort.  I am sorry you are having pain issues after your surgery.

i am on a nerve blocker and therefore the gentle colon cleaning products don't work for. what product would work?

MIRALAX (polyethylene glycol) : Softeners plus laxatives may help you-the softener keeps your stools soft while the laxative helps to push it along and out. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) ( or it's generic) has been a godsend to many and should help you-- if not, please see your doc as something else may be going on!

can a tumor in the colon be pressing on a spinal nerve causing neurological symptoms?

Accepted Answer

If metastatic: This would be a presentation for metastatic colon cancer, though an unusual one. A primary cancer won't do that -- the transverse colon would be the only site, and it would have to traverse two peritonealized surfaces just to get to the outside of the vertebral column.

i have a noncancer brain tumor on 5, 6, 7 if its not on 10 nerve would it cause stomach and colon problems?

Accepted Answer

No: Would not expect tumor of cranial nerves 5, 6 or 7 to cause gastrointestinal problems. However, involvement of cranial nerve 8 could elicit vertigo with vomiting that could be indirectly interpreted as being of gastrointestinal origin.

i have a brain tumor on nerves 5, 6, 7..i've been  having a lot of stomach and colon problems i've had all kinds of  tests . could it be the 10 nerve?

Accepted Answer

Maybe, but: Medication to treat the brain tumor or irradiation could cause G.I. Problems, so best to further discuss with your doctor.  Unlikely that a focal tumor you describe would affect the anatomy as mentioned, but this can be seen with carcinomatous meningitis, which is not what you seem to possess.

had colectomy 10/12. severe colonic inertia. dad  had 9" removed of colon same issue. muscles & nerves bad. any connection?  ibs in family both sides. can there be a genetic connection?

Possibly: There are theories that ibs is genetic. I would suggest you discuss this with your md.

could nerve damage really be repaired?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: A severed or ruptured nerve theoretically can be repaired surgically, but that does not guarantee complete healing and normal function.  Nerves do have the ability to regenerate.  New connection can be made to bridge the area of injury.  This takes time and most healing will occur within the first year after injury.  Ultimately, your body will do the best it can to heal the injury.
