See your dentist: Normal pain following removal, dry socket, alveolitis, infection?  Who knows?  We can't diagnose your problem over the internet.  How do you know it is not a dry socket? You need to see\consult with the dentist who removed the tooth.  Feel better.

Swelling: Sometimes the area of tooth loss will 
Swell, rarely infect. If the entire tooth
Came out, unlikely to still be a foreign body 
In the tissue. Would advise seeing a dentist

removed a wisdom tooth 7years ago.gum tissue that is left behind in the empty socket sometimes gets swollen and hurts for 2-3 days and then goes back to normal.dent said food might get trapped between gum&next tooth and cause this.what else could?

: That is a plausible explanation. If you are bothered by this problem so much you should see a periodontist for tackling that issue. Take care.

Extraction: The best time for you to do is all the dentist that did your extraction. They will be able to give you the most appropriate care.  This may be an antibiotic for an infection.

Persistent pain: It could be an infection, exposed bone, alveolitis or from an adjacent tooth just to mention the more likely possibilities. You need to see the dentist who removed the tooth for a follow up evaluation. We can't diagnose or treat the problem over the internet.

my tooth hurt. so i got a root canal done, but it still hurts. i got it extracted with bone grafting. why does it still hurt? ialso got my wisdom tooth extracted the same day on the other side of the mouth and i have a dry socket there. whatshould i do?

Call your dentist: Dry socket has intense pain.  You may have dry socket or you may have an infection.  Either way you should call your dentist  and get this checked.

Swelling post-ext: If the swelling is subsiding each day, that sounds normal. If the swelling is increasing each day it might be infected. In any case, you should call the dentist who removed your teeth and let him\her know. You will probably be asked to come back to the office for an evaluation.

will i know if i have a dry socket ? im 17 years old and im on my third day of recovery from wisdom teeth removal. i got sutures in all around and im wondering if these sutures will prevent dry socket. ive just heard a lot about how much it hurts?

: You are correct that a dry socket is quite painful. Sutures will not totally prevent a dry socket but the chances are diminished when sutures are placed. Best bet is not to gargle or rinse vigorously... those actions have a tendency to dislodge the blood clot, and that results in a dry socket.

Call surgeon: Ask if the surgeon who paced the dressing feels that it needs to be replaced.  If so, do it now.
