hi there
i play soccer/football and i always get bruises on my foot and shin because of people stepping and kicking me. is there anyway i could minimise this or recover faster. i use ice, heat, compression, arnica cream but nothing seems to works ?

: Wearing shin guards, 2 pairs of socks, and moving a bit faster might help prevent the injury, but regarding healing, you mentioned the correct items. Icing initially limits local swelling, and elevation if needed, but after 12-24 hours, heat brings more local healing factors, and topicals decrease pain. Massage may also stimulate healing. But, I suspect prevention is what you need to focus on.

Rule out a fracture : Be sure to get an X-ray done in order to rule out a fracture or a crush injury. Depending on the severity of your injury you may need to be placed in a soft cast, or be in a special shoe. You may even need to stay off your foot so it can heal. 
Get to your pcp or Podiatrist right away to get an X-ray taken of your injured foot.

Ice, ice, ice: If you suspect anything more than a bad bruise. I.E a break, take hr to the doctor for x-rays.

Show your parents so: That they can decide if you need medical care  RCE. REST-  the foot. Avoid activities requiring use of ankle. Can apply warmth since you are 5 days out. COMPRESSION- Wrap foot, ankle &amp; lower leg w ace wrap. Make sure it is not so tight that it decreases your circulation. ELEVATE- elevate ankle above your heart. Can prop on  pillow.

Bruised shin: Hopefully your shin is just bruised.  Try icing it and applying aspercream  It might take a while, but if it doesn't improve, you will need to get an  xray to make sure that it is not broken.

If the swelling is-: -in front and superficial to the patella, blood in the pre patellar bursa a good diagnosis. If there are abrasions on the area, watch for signs of infection. An eval by a fellowship trained sports medicine orthopedic surgeon would be able to advise you on treatment options. This is an elbow but the appearance is very similar.

No play: Better to give rest for your knee for a week and then use some splinter for knee for next 2 weeks.
