Weight loss: It is possible to lose weight with walk, but you will have to walk a lot. 1 hour of walking at an average pace only burns 200 calories (1 can of coke!) which means 0.5 pounds a week.  Cutting down on what you eat is more effective. Keep a log of what you eat and try to cut out sugary drinks if you haven't already.  Be sure to get your thyroid checked to make sure you're at goal.

Glucose ; exercise: Check w/your doc to see if you have pre-diabetes or diabetes.  Pre-diabetes is rampant and makes one sluggish, unmotivated, and foggy in thinking.  If so, use mark hyman, md, book called the low blood sugar solution.  Baby steps--literally walking a little each day is a wonderful beginning.  Catch this before it gets out of hand.

Great start: Walking to and from work is a great way to start to exercise.  Start by walking at comfortable pace. You can increase your speed as tolerated.  Walking will help to lose weight along with portion and calorie control.  Consider using a wearable that can keep track of your steps.  Aim first for 10,000 steps/day. Weight loss: It is going to be very difficult to sustain weight loss without regular exercise. Start slow by walking 20 minutes per day, 10 minutes down the road and 10 back. Ultimately increase the time, do interval walking, walk fast for one minute then regular pace for two minutes and so on. Interval walking will burn more calories. Think long term!: Congrats on getting started on a life changing process! the key word is process. It takes time and patience. Don't get too caught up in the numbers. This is not a day to day process nor is it a week to week or even month to month process. You have to look at in terms of years. Set long term goals. As with any long term process you will have good days and bad days. Stay motivated and positive!

To lose weight: You need to take in fewer calories than you burn off. If you can't burn off many, you need to eat even less. Even if you have bad knees, you can do water aerobics and also exercise your upper body with hand weight. That burns off calories just like any other exercise.

Slow is better.: To lose weight insure that calories burned &gt; calories consumed. Drink at least 8  - 8 oz glasses of water per day. Try for 8 hours of sleep/night.  Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables &amp; 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol &amp; junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic &amp; weight lifting exercises.

50, f, had arthro. knee surg. 1 yr. ago. when i don't exercise knee feels ok. but going walking hurts after. xrays mris look good. want to loose weight?

May need PT: Its not uncommon to have knee discomfort or even pain many months after knee scope. Knee may have subtle motion loss or strength deficits.  You may benefit from physical therapy.  If you have tried pt and you still have symptoms, get another opinion. It's rare to have normal studies and have pain. Something maybe being missed.
