SFZ vs Asacol (mesalamine): Sfz is the best drug for intestinal disease, certainly "1" for regional enteritis and crohn's in the si.  However, colonic bacteria breaks down sfz, and Asacol (mesalamine) is not.  So for large bowel disease Asacol (mesalamine) is preferred for reasons of efficacy.

It doesn't always work, but sometimes it works beautifully for this. Yes: They are not in the same family of medications, but i can see why maybe you are asking:  both singulair (montelukast) and Aspirin interfere with the arachidonic acid pathway (the one that generates different inflammatory molecules).  If true allergy to aspirin, no worries because they are totally different.  If pseudoallergy to asa (google it), no prob because singulair (montelukast) doesn't work like asa.

It is normal range: To make a diagnosis of crohn's will take a lot more information. The CRP levelis a guide  but not a diagnostic test.

Crohn's Disease: There is no cure, but there is treatment to keep it under control.  Usually the best people to take care of Crohn's are gastroenterologists, and they usually take care of Crohn's patient in conjunction with a surgeon.  Your treatment will depend on your symptoms and findings.  Be sure to see your doctor if your current treatment is not working for you.

my gi doctor put me on pentasa (mesalamine) for possible  crohn's, i have to take 4  250mg cr 4 times a day.  i am curious to know why i have to take 16 per day??

4g/day: The recommended day is 4g/day that does mean that you have to take 16 capsules of 250 mg per day. Please note that Pentasa (mesalamine) does come in 500 mg capsules also, that might reduce your total daily dose to 8 caps/day.
