Needs monitoring: as other scheduled medications, also can interact with other drugs, especially opioids, dose adjustment is needed at times if tolerance (current dose is no longer effective) develop. So in a nutshell: unsafe to use on your own without doctor's supervision, best wishes

Yes: Biofeedback is a great modality and is very safe.  It can help with anxiety disorder and should be used.  What some people don't realize is that anxiety can also be due to an immune imbalance due to diet/microbes in the gut.  If you have constipation, diarrhea, or any GI symptoms, you must first address your intestines, otherwise the biofeedback will not work well.

No problem: Lexapro (escitalopram) has no known effect on mail fertility, however may reduce libido, sexual performance in some  people.

Awareness: Anxiety develops when we lose awareness of our thought and feelings. Before we realize what's happened, our body is responding to a situation with high anxiety and we don't know why. Mindfulness based stress reduction this can help slow your thoughts and bring you back to the present moment in a peaceful way. I recommend the book the mindful way through anxiety by susan orsillo. See the list below: Primary medications used for the treatment of social anxiety disorder include paxil, (paroxetine) venlafaxine, clonopin, MAO inhibitors, Prozac has been used as well, and  zoloft is also used frequently. I have found Lexapro be useful as well although it is not fda approved for this purpose.

Therapy: Therapy and education treat anxiety. Not pills.  Pills cover up anxiety. They do not treat or cure anxiety.  One learns in appropriate treatment to understand their anxiety, the memories that are triggering it and how to redefine the experience or to gain insight so that the feelings experienced are less severe.  Anxiety is overcome. It is not cured by pills.

Not likely: It is not likely that using a drug once could cause your anxiety to last for an extended period of time.  Lots of things can give people anxiety, especially if you are a high achiever. I think you can make an appointment with a psychologist to evaluate the problem and make suggestions would be good.  Not all anxiety is bad, it just has to be managed and channeled.

Only too many: All I have to say, is that I have treated a lot of MD's and medical students, and most of the are  committed to their medical career or respective work. They usually respond well after taking a step to get help. This is at times difficult, most of all because we feel this might be a stigma or signs of being unsuitable to be a healer. Expectations of self-healing is high among us, for sure.

SSRI/ SSNRI / BZD: The selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (ssri) are probably the most effective and safest followed by the selective serotonin and norepineprine re-uptake inhibitors (ssnri) followed by the benzodiazepines (bzd).  There are many medications within each class which are often chosen based upon side effect profile.
