Nearby: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

No: Could be lipomas also- if they bother you, see a dermatologist or orthopedic doc- lymph nodes are not common by the shoulder blades but lipoma are

Possible but not --: Seen very commonly. There must be another reason for the swelling on the scapula. Between the scapula ; ribs, one could get a bursal sac, resulting in a bursitis.
Bony tumor can cause a swelling on the bone as well.
Get yourself seen by the pcp or an orthopod.

i woke up today with a stiff neck on my left side and my shoulder blade hurts too. my lymph node is pea sized in my neck and it feels swollen. help?'

Viral infection: and musculo-skletal pain. An upper respiratory tract infection or a cold can inflame your cervical lymphonode. It gradually goes down after your cold or URI is over. The neck and shoulder pain could be due to sleeping on your left side.  Take advil (ibuprofen) for the pain. It can take up to 10 days to get over the pain.

Could be: Lymph nodes are all over the body.  You cannot feel most of them but the head and neck area have many which can be felt and that shallow pocket above your collarbone is one area where they are appreciated.  There are, however, other causes for swelling and depending upon your symptoms, if this doesn't go away see your doctor.

Lymph nodes, lipomas: A lipoma is in the skin, and looks like a bulge in the skin itself. An enlarged lymph node is usually under the skin and its possible to move the surface of the skin separate from the underlying lymph node.

Benign lymph nodes can be either softer or a bit more firm than a lipoma, If a lymph node is very hard or unyielding, or tethered under the skin, be sure to get it checked out.

how can i tell if a lump in my neck is dangerous?  it is not in the usual place for lymph nodes. it is closer to where my neck and shoulder meet.

Neck mass/lump: There are a lot of characteristics of concerning or worrisome lumps in the neck.  You do have lymph nodes throughout your neck, including the area you are describing.  If the lump is hard or rubbery and non-tender, this is concerning.  If it seems stuck and not very mobile when you push on it, these are also concerning signs.  Ultimately, any neck mass should be evaluated by a practitioner.

41 yr old f, new dx mctd/fibro/sjogrens & early scleroderma. visible lymph nodes in rear sides and back of neck (hairline & ear to shoulder; not jaw like they check) will these stay forever w autoimmune disease or something to look into further?

: You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!
