Extraction: Sometimes there is trauma or bruising of the muscles during the extraction and this may be the reason why it is still hard to open your mouth. This will take some time to heal.continue to follow up with the extracting dentist and follow their post op instructions.   If your concerns are not being addressed then consult with an oral surgeon.

Edge of the extracti: Most likely it is the edge of the extraction siteand the gingiva has been lacerated exposing the bone itself.  Most times it heals but sometimes it has to be smoothed down surgically.  It is a common thing to happen.

Tooth extraction: Return to the surgeon to have the extraction site examined. You may have a piece of bone working its way out, or the area is just healing slowly and you are still feeling the edge of the extraction socket. The bad breath may be due to debris in the socket, or from other areas of your mouth.
In any case, you should be seeing your dentist for follow-up care.

No it's not: You probably having or developing an infection,are you on antibiotics? 
You should see your dentist ASAP for cleaning and depridment of extraction site and prescribe the proper medications.

If : If you are young it will be simple. Your surgeon only needs to remove enough bone to get the tooth out. That's what i call a window. The bone will heal back uneventfully. You will not be in the pain you are imagining. But the first week after surgery you will be sore and eating will take more effort. After the second week you can get back to eating that beef jerky. So don't fret it will go well.

Not lock jaw: Lock jaw is a lay term for tetanus.  You do not get tetanus from a tooth extraction.  You can get infection of the tooth root or have a piece of infected retained root that can cause swelling of the surrounding soft tissues making it difficult to fully open your mouth.  This should not normally occur after a tooth extraction.  See your dentist.

Trigeminal neuraglia: You have what we call trigeminal neuraglia (tn)
have you tried taking Neurontin (gabapentin) 300mg or discussing other treatment  i.E complementary alternatives  medicines , (cam) with your neurologist .
I know tn  management is not an easy task.

Bone Infection: You are dealing with two specialists who should reach out to each other to help solve the cause of this infection. If it is from the extracted tooth, then a simple antibiotic should clear things up. If after a course of antibiotics your issues remain, then it's probably a cracked tooth since antibiotics will not fix a cracked tooth. This is a simplified explanation, hard to diagnose sight unseen.

Possible infection: You may need antibiotics, and you should definitely call your providers office for answers.  If this is recent extractions, then it is not unusual, if it is awhile ago it would be more concerning.  Best thing to do is call your providers office.  Best of luck.
