after running yesterday, a tender, red lump has developed on the outside of my leg about 4 inches above my ankle. its about an inch in diameter.

Leg Lump: Thanks for the question. Can I assume you have run many times before and this never happened? This would require a photo  to see if it looks like a ganglion (common), fascial herniation (more common in this area), or superficial insect bite. Dr Rich Blake

Lump in lefg : It really depends where exactly in the leg the lump is, the size, texture, color, how long its been there, if it comes and goes, etc.  Without a picture, need more descriptors to answer this question. But do not let it stop you from running.

hi. i have had a hard bump on bone in between ankle and knee. been there for a few years. started running, now terrible occasional pain. whats wrong? thought was shin splints but why does the lump/bump hurt?

Get examined.: Any change in a longstanding lump or bump needs to be evaluated. Please see your doc,and back off the running 50%  (be sure you warm--up and stretch thoroughly before and after.any exercise)

sudden ankle pain after running. how to ease the pain?

Accepted Answer

RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation are the first line treatments for an ankle injury or pain.  I'd recommend icing for 20 minutes at a time.  Take 4 advil (ibuprofen) (if you have no stomach problems) 3 times a day with food.  Elevate the ankle as much as possible.  If it gets no better after a few days, i would recommend going in for an x ray to rule out arthritis.  You could also try running with a brace.

i keep having sharp pains in my left knee and in both of my ankles after running. how does this happen? how can i fix it?

Trauma: Repetitive pounding of the leg joints can cause inflammation of your joints.Best to cut back on the running briefly then retry a shorter run, if persists check with your doctor.

You possibly : Injured it. Visit foot/ankle doc and let them give you a exam.

It could: Depending on the severity of flat feet you could develop ankle problems. The ankle may tilt in what we call a valgus position causing stress to the ankle.
Orthotics/shoe inserts may help you. They help align the foot which inturn aligns the ankle.

Sprain: Could have sustained a mild sprain during the marathon that becomes apparent after  the marathon

the bottom of my foot hurts (not my ankle) after running. it typically feels worse after walking around on it for a few minutes. what should i do?

Plantar fasciitis: You may have plantar fasciitis based on the presentation. Usually, pain is located in the heel, usually, where the heel and the arch merge. First thing in the morning when you step on you foot is very painful and a few steps after that. It may hurt throughout the day as well. See podiatrist. Read about plantar fasciitis and see if symptoms fit. Inserts will help, exercises are helpful.

i have been running for a couple of months now after running 20km on sunday i noticed some swelling on the outside of my left ankle with only slight pain. no restriction in movement. 
should i be worried? should i stop running for a while?

Doctor should check: Strengthening one's hips, knees, and ankles can make it easier to run without leg or ankle symptoms. It's best to see one's doctor, who may refer to a podiatrist or a physical therapist. One can also view ankle exercises online. It's helpful to have well fitting shoes, proper arch support, and exercise on a flat surface. If overweight, one should lose some weight... All of these ideas may help.
