RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation are the first line treatments for an ankle injury or pain. I'd recommend icing for 20 minutes at a time. Take 4 advil (ibuprofen) (if you have no stomach problems) 3 times a day with food. Elevate the ankle as much as possible. If it gets no better after a few days, i would recommend going in for an x ray to rule out arthritis. You could also try running with a brace.

Pain: Rest ice compression and elevation it is very important to try to immobilize your ankle for a couple days to allow the inflammation to calm down if it doesnt seek medical attention you may have a stress fracture or tendonitis.

Yes: You should be icing, elevating and resting the injured limb. The compression of the ace bandage will reduce the swelling but the other tasks are just as important. If you find you do not see any improvement in your pain after a week or so, or if you should have severe pain when walking, you should visit the doctor to have the ankle examined.
