After running yesterday, a tender, red lump has developed on the outside of my leg about 4 inches above my ankle. its about an inch in diameter.

Leg Lump: Thanks for the question. Can I assume you have run many times before and this never happened? This would require a photo to see if it looks like a ganglion (common), fascial herniation (more common in this area), or superficial insect bite. Dr Rich Blake

Yikes......: It sounds as though you may have torn or caused a weakness in the tissue that encases a lower leg muscle. This lump could be the muscle peeking through the herniation. Quite possibly the extensor digitorum longus muscle is involved. Sometimes the bump goes away or get smaller when not standing. At any rate, to remove all doubt, have the bump examined either by a Healthtap orthopedist or your own.
