Unusual: That seems unusual to have all of them come back as "low". Even without being immunized, you certainly should have been exposed to some of these capsule serotypes over your 31 years.  But...Why were you tested at all? Is there a concern about a humoral immune defect? Are you asplenic?

Accepted Answer

Subclasses: Serotypes actually represent the different strains of S pneumococci with 23 of them being most common in causing human diseases.  If you have not received any vaccination or had any infection, low antibody titers are not necessarily abnormal.  The best way is to get immunized then check the titers again. Pneumococcal vaccine is intended to reduce the  risk of systemic invasion by this germ.

Hypoimmuneglobulinem: First question to you is: why your one year old was diagnosed with low immunoglobulins? Next question is: how is he being treated? Is he receiving IV igg? Now lastly, is he under care of a pediatric immunologist in an academic institute?

More info needed: Was the positive test oral or genital? It's rare to catch herpes from a platonic kiss. Your sexual exposure was with a partner who almost certainly is infected. If new genital infection, that person is the source. However, 30% of people with HSV1 have negative blood tests. If your positive test is HSV1 not HSV2, and especially if oral, you've had it a long time, not from either of these persons
