Accepted Answer

Some do for approval: A child who decides to act "big" or "tuff" after mastering their early fear of either procedure can have pride & separate themself from their peer group. Such an accomplishment should be applauded. I see it more often in litttle extroverts who enjoy new experiences.

MMR, Chicken pox and: Mmr, varicella (chicken pox) and yellow fever all have a 4 week waiting period until blood can be donated.

yesterday i was accidentally scratched very lightly by a stray cat, and it drew the smallest amount of blood. the cat appeared healthy and normal. should i be concerned about rabies or go get a vaccination?

Maybe,maybe not: Rabies transmission from pets is rare but feral cats may be infected.A call to your local health department can let you know if  if rabies is active in your region &amp; the animals involved.They can also direct you to a source of the vaccine if it is needed.The cdc website also has information on rabies that may be helpful.www.cdc.gov.

there was a recent vaccination in my family of moderna on april 11, 2021. the next day he fainted twice and the days following he feels weak and shaky. there was blood work done two days after and there was nothing found. what should i do?

: Reactions to this vaccine are relatively rare. I would not assume your system would behave the same way. You can get the vaccine or not, it is your choice. The case fatality rate for covid at your posted age approaches zero, however you could be significantly sickened by the disease or could carry it to others if you have an asymptomatic case. Everyone has a role to play.I chose to get vaccinated.

my 5 year old got bitten by our pet chinchilla yesterday. not deep but it drew a bit of blood. he had his 18 months vaccination. do we need to get him a tetanus injection as well?

Accepted Answer

No: He should be well covered for tetanus.  Make sure the wound is well cleaned and monitor the site for increasing redness, swelling or drainage. These bites are a risk of a variety of other bacterial infections too.

at son's 4 mon vaccination, nurse use a plate with 3 syringes inside. she take off needle caps all at once and place them back to the plate, then give shots. the needles may contact the plate contaminated with other patient's blood. how risky it is?

Can talk with doctor: In such a situation, a parent can talk with the doctor by phone to advise the doctor what happened. Having more than one uncapped needle at a time is risky be cause there is a higher chance of a needle touching ANYTHING. That means a needle can accidentally pick up germs from anything it touches. The "nurse" may not realize there is increased risk, which is why the doctor will talk with the nurse.

2 months old kitten scratched me, no blood visible. skin has now become a bit red. i took rabies vaccination ten months ago, do i need it again?

No: You get at least 2 years of ongoing protection from completing the primary rabies series. What you may have is a localized simple germ infection from the scratch. Local applications of antibiotic ointment may help but a visit to your doc may be needed if it  continues to progress.

IgM not a problem: You don't tell us how low your igm is. If it is only slightly lower than the range for the laboratory that measured it, it is unlikely to be of significance. Without other immunological abnormalities, none of your complaints seem to be related. Also, you have a very complicated history. I suggest you go to the nearest university-affiliated hospital for a thorough evaluation.
