All hormones: Postpartum is a unique time in a woman's life. All hormones are affected during pregnancy and post delivery. your thyroid has increased demands, your prolactin must go up significantly for breast milk, and to suppress pregnancy,  your ACTH and your pituitary is making more cortisol to deal with the stressors of pregnancy and delivery... They settle back to normal at around 3 months

BIG question!: Hi. In general terms, a hormone is a substance made in one place in the body and active at other places (the target tissues). Hormones bind specific receptors in target tissues and modify cell/tissue function. Hormones come in 4 broad categories: peptides/proteins, steroids, biogenic amines, and fatty acid metabolites. I've got monster textbooks that try to answer that question!  :-)

Men may experience decreased testosterone levels resulting in fatigue and decreased sexual performance. Thyroid levels may decline with age requiring oral replacement. For argument's sake, Insulin levels may decline contributing to diabetes. Take a blood test if you have concerns.
