the skin in my lips is peeling and flaky. it's been happening for months. chapped lip medication helps but after use it just comes back. it doesn't hurt but is irritating.?

Chelitis: Lip-licking cheilitis is best treated with avoidance of the licking behavior. Drug-induced cheilitis is treated with avoidance of the offending drug, but if this is not possible, frequent application of aquaphor ointment, which is over the counter, may help ease lip pain and irritation. Other possible causes of chapped lips include high fevers as well as environmental conditions, such as cold weat.

Not healing: Vaseline will protect the lips from drying while they heal themselves, but it doesn't actually "heal.".

HSV no, warts maybe: No OTC medications will have any significant benefit against an oral herpes outbreak (cold sore). For warts, there are OTC treatments, such as "Compound W" in the US; I have no idea about what is availalbe in Kenya. But you shouldn't self treat anal warts without professional care. Your diagnosis may be wrong; and in the anal area, significant irritation and ulceration can result.

i am experiencing  painful cracks at the corners of mouth and mouth pain. the following also describes me: lip blister. my medication amtriptyline has caused severe dry mouth and cracked lips. ive used otc histamine mouth wash. did nothing. help!

Cracks/blisters: Make sure you haven&#x27;t got into the habit of constantly licking your lips. Sometimes things as simple as petroleum jelly applied to the corner of your lips works.If necessary see your own dentist for an evaluation and treatment. He/she may refer you to your primary care physician or a  dermatologist if cause is not readily apparent.

Thing that dry mouth: Any medicine that dries the mouth will cause chapped lips. Also dry weather and over licking your lips will remove all moisture. Any kind of lip balm or vaseline that coats the lips will treat no matter what medicine you were on. Also some acne medicines can increase the risk of chapped lips.

: Oh so many possibilities.  You will have to be seen to be diagnosed, either by your Dentist, anspecialist in Oral Medicine, or an Oral Pathology specialist. Contact a practitioner, explain hour dilemma, ask to be seen when the problem surfaces again. Probably herpetic.

There may be hope!: In vitiligo, immune system disables the pigment producing cells of skin. Local injection with corticosteroids could help in some cases of vitiligo.  Michiyukoga (2006) found that in patients with vitiligo affected by an autoimmune process, local corticosteroid injections were effective. Topical  immune modulating drugs & ultraviolet light, calcineurin inhibitors (tacrolimus), have helped many.

It : It is possible to be allergic to almost anything...Especially depending on your definition of allergy.

Medically speaking, an allergy is a type of hypersensitivity disorder caused by the immune system. When a person's immune system over-reacts to a normally harmless substance in the environment, we call that an allergy. This over-reaction can bring on an inflammatory response which can range from uncomfortable to dangerous.

The main substance in juvederm is hyaluronic acid - a naturally occuring part of the extracellular matrix.  This is the scaffolding that surrounds all the cells in your body.  Thus, one would not expect an allergic reaction to this product.  With many topical medications (drops for example) the patient thinks that they are reacting to the medication when in reality they are reacting to the preservative in the drop or the carrier molecule.

Sometimes a patient will get a shot and have pain at the site or swelling or bruising and will tell me that they "must be allergic" to the medication.  Although this reaction is not wanted, it is not a true allergy and can happen even with injection of saline solution.

When in doubt...Skip it.
