Here's a few: Poor nutrition or use of steroids will lead to poor healing. Overexercise or stress to limbs and joints without proper preparation, such as strength training and appropriate warm up, can also lead to injury. Also, some chronic disease processes, such as diabetes, can make one susceptible to injury. Good luck.

Prolotherapy: Is performed by alternative medicine doctors and is not accepted in mainstream. It has been reported by individual doctors of my acquaintance that it can produce excellent results. It is, however, a technical procedure and you need to know the reputation of the doc.

Ligaments: I am fairly confident it is not related to menopause.
Chiropractic treatments don't appear to be working. Make an appointment to see an Orthopedic surgeon.

: Information like how long ago it happened any localized swelling or discoloration was not mentioned  You did not say  if you can walk on it. Immobilization with a walking boot or crutches would be helpful. Physical therapy would be required on any injured ankle to assess and evaluate whether further consideration is required. Possible surgery.

Depends on location: "torn" ligaments usually mean strained ligaments.   A genuinely torn ligament, such as ones on the lateral ankle, might require surgery, however, most can be managed with bracing.  "torn" tendons are similarly often misrepresented in place of "strained" tendons.  A torn achilles tendon might require surgery in a younger patient, but in older patients may be treated with just casting.

Strengthen muscles: You can't alter the tension in the ligaments around a joint without surgery.  You can however optimize the function of the surrounding muscles or dynamic stabilizers of the joint.  This, for example,  is the initial approach in someone who has an inherently loose shoulder (loose ligaments without tearing) and is often successfull.
