Simple definitions: A tendon attaches a muscle to a bone to move it.
Ligaments attach various structures in the body to maintain its interety. They hold things together. They move because they are flexible. They most commonly are injured because they attach to things that are moved by muscles and try to hold them together. There are ligaments holding the knee together, torn or strained in knee injuries.
