Variable: Pda is connection between pulmonary artery and aorta that never closed after birth. Surgery for PDA is variable.Most common method is a left sided thoracotomy, opening chest, and sutures or metallic vascular clips occluding shunt.Sometimes interventional cardiologist via a catheter can place  an amplatzer vasculer  plug device, spring with two discs occluding ductus.Pda does not usually recur.

pt had surgery whipples op. chemo offered but not given as told it would only extend life for another  2 or months. answers to hyperthetial question?

No cancer?: So stage 4 means metastatic cancer, ie it has spread over the body.  A Whipples procedure would not fix this.  If it is true fantastic.  Wrong diagnosis or misunderstanding from then or now?
Sounds like there may be some confusion, I would recommend to see the doctor and clarify.

See lung doc: One's pulmonologist can assess pre-op.  Usually one's lung function will be measured with a pulmonary function test, to see if a person can even undergo lung surgery and if so, how much.  The important thing is to follow one's doc's advice who knows you best, and to treat the underlying reason for the surgery.  There will be decrease in quality.  Best wishes and god bless. Variable: Vision correction with lasik provides a quick improvement in the basic focusing power of the eyes.  For most this is stable but some undergo 'regression' in which some of the improved power is lost.  Lasik has no impact on the hardening of the lens which causes presbyopia after age 40, so this will occur.

Complex issue; yes,: likely, because such maneuvers, especially enough to create popping sensations, possibly noise, are inherently generating enough tissue trauma to generate the sensation (sound?), body structure, as in all living systems (all open systems; i.e. everything made of keeps changing), is based on a constant remodeling/rebuilding based on previous structure as an ongoing foundation.

50 yr old male. going to have surgery for aneurysm by coiling method. some says that i may not be able to go back to normal life. is it true?

Cerebral aneurysm: Coiling done 4 brain aneurysm, at a center w/experience doing these, should not adversally affect quality of life.That said, there's always small risks of complications w/any procedure.Interventional radiologist should be able to provide % of risks.Unlike an operation, coiling's done by threading a small catheter through a vessel to the aneurysm site, similar to balloon procedures 4 blockd heart artery.

i ask this w/all seriousness! why do surgeons say that a disc isn't bad enough for surgery? why not fix it before the pain is life consuming ?

Back Pain = No Surg: There are many studies that show that surgery (fusion) is not effective for back pain. Microdiscectomy for a disc herniation causing weakness in a leg is sometimes indicated, but if pain is the only problem, there are frequently other treatments which work better than surgery. Failing these treatment may leave surgery as the only option but until then, it is really best interest not to operate.

my ball gladder is inflated, but i do not have  stones or any other abnormality, is it possible to reduce it and live life without removal surgery.

Need more info: How did you find out your gall bladder is "inflated"? Are you having pain? What imaging was done? If you don't have gallstones or pain related to your gallbladder, there is no need to have it removed surgically just because it is "inflated" or enlarged. If you have an inflamed gallbladder, also known as chronic cholecystitis, you should talk to your doctor about other treatment possibilities.

have glaucoma with a life expectancy of 30+ yrs.  plan to work as a paralegal for 10 years. if  major surgery done is a detail oriented career over?

No not necessarily : If your glaucoma has progressed despite maximally tolerated medical/laser treatment, and your glaucoma doc has recommended surgery, generally this is to stabilize the disease progression. Your quality of vision depends on how much field loss you have in each eye and your visual acuity. As long as your binoc vision (& central vision)remain in tact  your ability to continue with dexterous tasks = ok.

i can't accept that i havetn, making me depressed as will have it for life.meds don't help much and dr hasnt said anything about surgery, how to cope.

Pain: The best medical treatments for trigeminal neuralgia are tegretol, trileptal, Gabapentin and baclofen. Elavil or Cymbalta (duloxetine) may offer some relief, specially if depression occurs. Microvascular decompression and radiofrequency ablation of the trigeminal nerve are successful therapeutic approaches to refractory cases. Approach your physician about a referral to an experienced neurosurgical center.
