Just monitor: It would be prudent to continue monitoring the child without givng a med that could mask a problem.For the first 8 wks we worry about babies that might have picked up a germ at delivery that finally invaded the blood & could cause blood poisoning or meningitis.Any rectal temp >100.4 deserves an immediate trip to the er.If just warmly wrapped, lay out & see if temp comes down on its own-then no pbm.

Why ever ???????: The kid has only a crude sense of taste at this point and will have no benefit by such a strange addition to its diet. I have seen such "offers" put an infant in the hospital with acute vomiting and diarrhea. The 6 wk old has no memory of great tastes to savor and whatever chocolate ice cream may mean to the adult, it does not mean the same to the kid. Stick with breast milk or formula until a yr.

Before : Before giving any medication to your 6 week old baby, i would advise calling your primary care provider. Infants of that age don't clear medications at the same rate than adults or older children. So avoid giving your infant any over the counter medications (like benadryl) until you seek further medical care.
Hives are in general red or pink bumps or welts due to release of histamine. They are usually itchy.  They can be caused by an allergic reaction to food, drugs, insect bites or even exercise-induced.  Hives are also called urticaria. It maybe a good idea to try to identify what may be causing your baby to develop hives and avoid further exposure.
