Accepted Answer

Varies with surgery: Most of my arthroscopic surgery patients
for menisectomy have most of their swelling
gone within a few days and are walking
normally within a week.
For the acl patients, the time frame would
probably be more like 4-6 weeks.

knee swelling 1.5 years after acl surgery. could it be related?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: There are several possible causes so i would have the orthopedist evaluate the knee.

how long does swelling around the knee takes after acl reconstruction?

Accepted Answer

6 weeks: Swelling around the knee may be due to fluid in the knee or soft tissue swelling around the joint.  Ice, elevation and nsaids can speed the resolution. Walking too much will prolong it.

i'm having swelling after my first full knee bend 6 weeks after acl reconstruction. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: gradual buildup of activity to tolerance is what you need to do. Pain and worsening needs to be looked at

i had acl reconstruction and meniscus repair. pain and swelling in knee was typical.  no swelling at all in foot until ten days later. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: It is not terribly uncommon for patients who have knee surgery to have swelling that then begins to track down into the ankle and foot.  That being said, there are also people who have knee surgery that develop a blood clot, which can potentially be life threatening.  So I would let your surgeon know immediately and follow his recommendations about whether your postoperative course is appropriate.

6 weeks after acl surgery, knee flexion is 90-100, extension lag is 30. supra patellar swelling present. when can i get full flexion and extension?

Depends: Your Surgeon is in best position to tell you. Sometimes full range of motion is never achieved after surgery even with PT

hi ,i had a acl surgery patellar tendon (autograft) on mar26 which is closely 4months by now.now i am noticing some swelling on the right knee.

Reevaluation: Swelling can occur especially after a physically taxing day.  If it does not improve, recommend notifying your orthopedic surgeon for followup visit.  NSAIDs may be taken to help with reducing swelling

i had acl surgery back in march and was playing football and landed wrong and felt i pop in my knee it is swelling and it hurts. did i retear it?

Possibly: Possibly and i would certainly let your surgeon know.  Some times it can be simply the breaking up of some scar tissue adhesions from your surgery, but in the worst case scenario you can retear an acl ligament or a meniscus.  A simple exam can go a long way in determining the likely cause.  Thank you.

do i need more surgery if new mri of my right knee (prior acl repair and meniscectomy) now has a tear in the horn of meniscus, macerated and attenuation degenerative meniscus status with a bakers cyst with extreme pain and swelling?

: Given the complexity of your issue and the history of a previous surgery, the best person to answer this would be the Dr who ordered the new MRI or your previous orthopedic surgeon. it is vital that someone who knows your history completely  and thoroughly evaluate these new findings.

acl reconstruction, 6 days out (hamstring).  muscle weakness, swelling, wobble when weight put on leg. normal? dr said i should be walking 1 week out.

Accepted Answer

NOT AS PREDICTED: Your recovery is slow at best, but not necessarily an area of worry, unless there is a problem with your femoral nerve.  Strongly urge followup visit in next few days with your surgeon, and find out if this is just a slow recovery or a post-operative complication which needs to be addressed.
