Hydronephrosis : Hydronephrosis is a condition where one or both kidney(s) are swollen and it may represent an obstruction (acute or chronic) from stone disease, tumor or a condition known as reflux disease. Theray, as you can imagine, depends on what is causing this condition.  If there is a stone, a simple removal of the stone will resolve the retention.  If you have reflux disease, you may need surgery.

Hydronephrosis: A kidney that is completely obstructed may show porr to no function on renal scan.  The kidney should be drained with a stent or nephrostomy tube and the renal scan repeated after 4 weeks with the drain in place.  If there is still ni function, then removal may be indicated.  Discuss this with your urologist as soon as possible.

Enlarged kidney: when there is echogenicity, that usually means a possiblity of small stones.  Loss of the corticomedullary area means there is loss of kidney function.  Enlargement of the kidney can be due to many factors.  High blood pressure, kidney disease are the most common causes

Many reasons: An enlarged kidney can be caused by many reasons. One sided enlargement may be related to an anatomic issue blocking the ureter like a kidney stone, or even a mass. When both kidneys are enlarged this can occur related to blockage caused by kidney stones, or an enlarged prostate, diseases such as diabetes or polycystic kidney disease, inflammatory diseases etc. There are many reasons.

Need more info, but: If the diagnosis is prenatal hydronephrosis is the most common anomaly detected by us in the United States.

About 1/2 of these cases have normal us when after birth.  Of the 1/2 which persist, about 2/3 are due to obstruction by a kink or stricture at the junction of the ureter (tube from the kidney) with the bladder.

It is possible I am misunderstanding your question - if so, please ask again.

Not Likely Related: Identification of a kidney mass requires xrays to determine its benign or malignant nature.  Most often a ct scan without and with dye is done.  If any doubt exists, an MRI or biopsy may be ordered.  Surgery if a cancer is detected.
Bph (enlarged prostate) occurs as men age and creates the issues men suffer with urination.  Weakened stream, more frequent visits and urge are common. Meds can help.

Urologist: This finding suggests a partial obstruction below the area of the enlarged ureter(stone, valve problem, etc) and is best evaluated by a urologist.

f 66 years. kidney ultrasound report says 2.5 cm stone in lower calyx and hyperechoic central tissue. kidney slightly enlarged. what does hyperechoic central tissue mean? what is the percentage risk of malignancy? i read hypoechoic is the risky one?

: Hyperechoic can be due to manythings beside malignancy and ultrasound is not definitive of that. To resolve the issue you may need a Uro -Ct scan. Pl do not read the garbage on the 'net for you will worry unnecessarily. always ask your doc for explanation. Good luck.
