Your role (what is your relatinship to the patient, anyway?) should be supportive, not therapeutic.  Encourage them to, ask for help.  There are many excellent programs available for treatment .  Work on that angle.

Don't be a vegan!: Those who choose to be vegetarian can easily get enough protein to "bulk" if they are lacto-ovo vegetarians and can supplement with whey protein and egg albumin! both are no fat and 100% protein!

Two snacks a day that are protein or dairy - for instance nuts, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter on celery sticks.

Also manage stress skillfully.
