Tmj: Pain around th ear and the jaw following tonsillectomy is probably a result of keeping the mouth wide open for a long time during the surgery which puts lots of strain on the temptomsndibular joint (TMJ) and the muscles that are involved with this joint.  Talk to your dentist there are exercises that you can do to ease the pain there are also muscle relaxing and pain med. You can take.

Get it checked: Go back to the dentist who filled your tooth.  It may be as simple as the filling being too tall so your bite is hitting too hard on that tooth.  But it could be as complex as the tooth dying due to nerve damage.  Your dentist will do some tests to determine what the cause(s) is/are and how to resolve your issue.

Jaw joint?: Sometimes the jaw joint can become injured during dental procedures. By having the mouth open very widely the muscles around the jaw can be stretched and tear leading to pain and discomfort. He should use anti-inflammatory medicines, ice 20 minutes 3 to 4 times a day on the area that hurts and a strictly soft diet. He also needs to contact his dentist for an exam.

i have chronic neck and jaw pain on left side. every few weeks i get really anxious for no reason and the pain flares up. how do i make it calm down?

Rule out TMJ: Consult with your dentist to rule out any TMJ involvement.  The solution may be as simple as the fabrication of a night guard.

can lexapro (escitalopram) cause lasting jaw pain? i had a bad reaction to my first and only dose a week ago which included jaw quivering and my jaw has hurt since.

SSRIs and clenching: SSRI's SNRI's  take some time for the body to acclimate.  Generally, your MD starts you at a low dose and works you up to a therapeutic dose.  Some side effects can be nervousness and jaw clenching.  One possibility is that this has created a spasm in the muscles that close the jaw.  Check with your MD about side effects and have your dentist examine you if jaw pain persists.

Could be the joint: You might have jaw joint pain  (TMJ)commonly felt as being dislocated. TMJ is a sometimes frustrating entity. I would see and Ear Nose Throat or Oral Surgeon for second opinion.

TMJ problem...: Your symptoms point to TMJ problem. You may have the problem prior to the appt. But it has not surfaced yet and during the root canal treatment you must open your mouth wide for a long time. This can trigger the symptoms. You can use hot and cold moist facial towels intermittenly applied at the joint area. Longer (around 30 sec.) with the heat vs. 10 sec. Cold. Contact your dentist.

Depends: The problem could be in the neck, the structures between the neck and shoulder or the shoulder itself. If the discomfort is worse turning your head to the right, it suggests muscle type problem in the neck rather than a pinched nerve coming out of the neck. If shoulder motion is very uncomfortable or limited it suggests problems(?Bursitis) there. The jaw discomfort may be unrelated. See your md.
