Yes: A tooth extraction is very common and a dentist can probably address the incidence. I know that it is less common for young people today because dentists have found ways to protect teeth compared to people my age (58). Not sure: If the tooth is removed, then the extraction is successful. There can be instances where for various reasons, the dentist may need to leave a small piece of tooth. Usually there would be more damage in removing the small piece rather than leaving it. However, a patient should always be informed if this is the case. In addition, follow up care may be needed if a piece of tooth left causes issues.

No: The problem with "fizzy" drinks after an extraction is that there is a slight possibility that the fizz will loosen the blood clot and cause a dry socket.  Not sure anything has been clinically proven through research, but why take the chance...Just avoid them for a couple days.

Wisdom tooth surgery: 'major surgery'? Not as much as open heart surgery but more than an a suture for a slight cut. The term is subjective and the range of difficulty and recuperation varies widely. Why not discuss your particular circumstances with an oral surgeon (or general dentist)?

Not always: Molar tooth extraction can be simple with no surgery involved in many cases. Sometimes if a tooth is badly broken, or has had a root canal treatment in past that tooth may not come out easily and will need surgery. Gauze, pressure: Failed? Do you mean it is still bleeding? Use a dry sterile gauze or a wet tea bag over the socket and held in place with gentle pressure for 45 minutes. If you still have any concerns or problems, call the dentist who extracted the tooth.

Normal: Having a blood clot in the site of the extraction is normal and help with healing.  It should go away with time and i would suggest leaving it alone.  If you have a blood clot somewhere else, see your physician.
