Is it okay to have fizzy drinks after a tooth extraction?

No: The problem with "fizzy" drinks after an extraction is that there is a slight possibility that the fizz will loosen the blood clot and cause a dry socket. Not sure anything has been clinically proven through research, but why take the chance...Just avoid them for a couple days.

Carbonated drinks: You should avoid carbonated drinks for 3-5 days after wisdom teeth are extracted. The reason is to prevent the loss of the blood clot which is a cause of "dry socket" definitely do not use a straw or smoke either!

Yes, don't swish: Carbonated or non-carbonated it makes no difference to the extraction site! just don't drink hot liquids while you mouth is "numb" and avoid swishing any liquids for a few days to allow the blood clot to stabilize. Have other docs made you crazy thinking about the dangers of sucking through a straw? Complete nonsense! every time one swallows, a sucking action occurs!
