i'm currently on a daily dose of 20mg of nexium (esomeprazole).  i am 4 weeks pregnant are these meds safe to take? i tried not taking it i was in pain after 2 days.

Nexium (esomeprazole) preganancy: I would recommend you switch to otc liquid antacid like maalox or tums (calcium carbonate). Avoid as much prescription medications during pregnancy unless it is necessary and prescribed by your doctor.

Yes, but : Taper off slowly so to avoid rebound reflux. Use every other day for a few weeks and then every 3 days for a few weeks an then stop. That being said, if you have barrett's esophagus it is probably best to continue.

Chronic PPI use: Chronic use of nexium (esomeprazole) and related agents are not known to cause polyps, bur may cause atrophy of the mucosa and interfere with absorption of electrolytes, it has been reported increased incidence of pneumonia, osteoporosis , b12 deficienecy

Should be okay.: There are no reported interactions between Nexium (esomeprazole) and  Duromine (phentermine.)  Regarding the safety of Duromine, it is usually a safe drug, when supervised under the care of a physician. Any medicine can have side effects, and a few of the rare side effects of Duromine can be severe, so be sure to follow your doctor's advice. good luck.

Safe but why?: Nexium (esomeprazole)  should be taken 30-60 mins before the first meal and zantac nearly at any time. There is no major advantage in taking them both at the same time.

Gerd: It is okay to use nexium (esomeprazole) and ranitidine in one day, but is symptoms continue get it checked for any infection in the stomach or any other intervention like surgery might help to control the sympotms

Both are safe: Both Pantoprazole (which is generic for protonix) and Nexium (esomeprazole) are proton pump inhibitors to reduce acid secretions in your stomach.  They are both safe and very effective. Pantoprazole being available generically is much less expensive than nexium (esomeprazole).  Omeprezole (generic for Prilosec is also a ppi- and nearly the same molecule as nexium (esomeprazole)- "the new purple pill") is inexpensive and available without rx!
