No/yes: Usually no major side effects.All ppis could cause problem with absorption of vitamins and minerals like iron because of lack of acid.Increased c.Diff colitis.Many other uncommon side effects are possible.

Controversial: A few studies have shown that calcium and magnesium absorption may be affected by long term Nexium (esomeprazole) (ppi) use. One must weigh the risks vs benefits for any chronic medication. The lowest effective dose should be taken. Overall, compared to many other medications ppi's are generally safe.
