Controversial: A few studies have shown that calcium and magnesium absorption may be affected by long term Nexium (esomeprazole) (ppi) use. One must weigh the risks vs benefits for any chronic medication. The lowest effective dose should be taken. Overall, compared to many other medications ppi's are generally safe.
