Tattoo: Where are you getting the tattoo placed? What part of the ear is infected? If there's a chance that there are bacteria from the infection in the bloodstream, might be advisable to wait until the infection is treated.

hi, i have a severe outer ear infection and it didnt work to get rid of it naturally. i am 23 weeks pregnant and they prescribed ciprofloxacin 0.3 %- dexamethasone 0.1 % ear drops 4 drops twice a day for 7 days. are the drops safe to take?

: The drugs in drops/creams/lotions you apply to outside surfaces including your ear canal do not enter the blood. To reach the fetus and cause harm they must enter the blood, usually in things you eat/drink or have injected. I would not worry about these drops.

i am currently in the middle of a 7 days valacyclovir and augmentin treatment for, respectively, a cold sore and an ear infection. i am scheduled to get my  second dose of pfizer vaccine tomorrow. is that safe?

: You can safely be vaccinated on schedule. (For future oral hereps outbreaks, ask your doctor about a single 2-gram dose valacyclovir, which is CDC's recommendation. It's just as effectie as taking the drug for several days.)

if i have an ear infection and i use a steam inhaler is it possible that the fluid in the middle ear will dry out get crusted and become stuck in the middle ear and unable to drain or will it be more likely to drain? concerned about stuck fluid?

: I would not concern yourself with the steam inhalers effect on your middle ear. It would have no direct access to these structures. To the extent the moisture derived thins your mucus secretions better drainage may be possible. However, in practice I doubt it would have any effect pro or con.

It depends: Most ear infections are viral and don't need antibiotic therapy. Ibuprofen &amp; acetaminophen may be taken for pain and a nasal decongestant may help reduce congestion and associated ear pain.  If the pain lasts more than 2-3 days, it's best to have your ears checked by a doctor, who would advise to continue supportive therapy or Rx antibiotics, depending on your ear exam.

i have an ear infection and i'm allergic to penicillin, is there something i can take that is otc to get rid of the ear infection.

Yes and no: If you do nothing at all it may self heal over 6-8 weeks. It may also abscess, erode your mastoid bone in your skull and end up needing surgical repair. There are a collection of other antibiotics that can clear an ear infection, but no herbals/otc meds that I know of.
