It depends: Most ear infections are viral and don't need antibiotic therapy. Ibuprofen & acetaminophen may be taken for pain and a nasal decongestant may help reduce congestion and associated ear pain. If the pain lasts more than 2-3 days, it's best to have your ears checked by a doctor, who would advise to continue supportive therapy or Rx antibiotics, depending on your ear exam.
