Common, often brief: After excessive cleasning/diarrhea from the colon-prep for colonoscopy, your intestine will try to to rest/recover. Some folks experience a "overshoot" effect after being cleansed out and so may end up having some constipitation for a brief period of time. If prolonged for over 1 wk or two, i suggest checking with doc. A bit of metamucil or benefiber may help. Good luck.

Fairly common: Its not normal, but its not unusual. The anesthetic used can be constipating. Should resolve after just a few days however; any longer, call your provider.

After a colonoscopy: Having had a full bowel prep most folks will not have a bowel movement for 1-3 days. If it is longer than that i would discuss with your endoscopist. Preps can dehydrate which also leads to constipation so drink 80-100 oz caffeine free/alcohol free fluid leading up to and after colonoscopy to avoid in the future.

anal pain&stool leakage,did a colonoscopy& everything seemed normal.i think i have sphincter spasm which causes constipation which worsens spasm??

Increase Fiber: This sounds terrible for you. Chronic constipation can result in anal pain and spasm.  Ideally, increasing your fiber by eating a lot of vegetobles -- I recommend a pound per day -- will soothe your constipation and provide your daily dose of fiber.  With a normal colonoscopy, often we have to circle back to lifestyle modification to help. Also try 4 prunes a day. Very effective for constipation.

my father 56 year of age have chronic constipation and gas issue from past many years, he had colonoscopy  7 year back , which was normal.  it it anything to worry for this issue. ?

Gastroenterology: He should be seen by his gastroenterologist at least every year with further consideration for tests based on detailed history and physical exam. Physical activities are key in preventing constipation and aside from dietary modifications and over the counter laxatives.

luq pain 2yrs. having blood in toilet/and on toilet paper w/bm. not constipated, soft. had colonoscopy 1yr ago. normal but had a hemorrhoid. worry??

More info needed: The fact that blood is present needs to be evaluated by your doctor.  You may have irritated your hemorrhoid and it may have bled.  This can be caused by straining at bowel movement or sitting on the commode too long.  If the blood is red, it means fresh bleeding and if it is black blood, it means blood higher in the GI tract.  If continuing to bleed you need to be seen today.  Otherwise, later.

my calprotectin is 59. other than occasional mild cramps, no diarrhea, constipation, blood or other symptoms. other labs all normal. colonoscopy time?

Not necessarily: I'm not sure why you had a fecal calprotectin performed if you have no symptoms other than cramping. Levels are elevated in inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract. If you have a family history of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease a colonoscopy could be considered, but will likely be of low yield without additional symptoms.

Discomfort is due : To your long standing constipation.You have to be very aggressive with cleansing out your bowels otherwise you will become impacted and obstructed.You want to rule out colon cancer too.Best to get seen by gastroenterologist so he can help manage your chronic constipation! in meantime, drink plenty of  fluids, prune juices, hjgh fibers, get the habit of relaxing and not rushing to go to the bathroom.

I think you're: probably ok, especially if you aren't having any other symptoms, i.e. pain or fever. You imply you have a slow transit time in the colon anyway, so I think you can watch and wait another day or two. If it goes much longer than that, I would have a conversation, at a minimum, with your doctor. Good on you...getting your colonoscopy:)

small amount of bloody mucus; constipated tonight, passed hard stools. had colonoscopy 3 wks ago & was normal. have ibs-c. should i be concerned?

Be aware: 24y female has IBS-c, normal recent colonoscopy &amp; currently &quot;hard stools&quot; with single episode of &quot;bloody mucous&quot;; probably from mechanical injury to rectal mucosa. Report to doctor if blood is recurrent or generous. Pharmacologics are available from doctors for IBS-c, which is a functional problem. See comments:
