Yes: But if the sleeping is out of the ordinary for the person with emphysema, or they are too difficult to arouse, and/or confused, i would seek immediate medical attention to make sure that co2 levels are normal.

COPD: All those things are common with emphysema. The worse the problem the worse the symptoms. Should discuss with his dr. What the expectations and treatments are.

See doctor....: The symptoms you describe could be due to a low oxygen level and/or a high carbon dioxide level. He may need supplemental oxygen which may improve the situation. He needs to see a doctor asap; take him to the er if these symptoms are worsening.

: Metabolic causes include low Magnesium, an evaluation by your Cardiologist is indicated. Discuss the possibility of pulmonary hypertension, need for oxygen therapy and a diuretic. Monitor your BP, screen for COVID 19 and keep all vaccinations current. Physical therapy and Pulmonary rehab may improve overall condition.

Many reasons...: If you are having low oxygen levels at times, you may be having fatigue. Also, you may have undiagnosed sleep apnea. This is a condition that causes low oxygen levels while you sleep from the stopping of breathing. This leads to episodes of waking throughout the night, sometimes many times during an hour. This leads to poor sleep and daytime fatigue. Get checked for this. Go in good health.

See doctor: There are many treatments for COPD but the word cure is probably not very appropriate. You can improve but it is doubtful you will be cured. First the diagnosis has to be clarified with various tests which will also help decide how severe is the problem. If you are smoking, stop. There are pills and inhaled medicines that improve copd. You may need oxygen at night or during the day as well.

Not directly...: Untreated sleep apnea can have many complications but it does not directly cause COPD. The obstruction that is talked about in sleep apnea is more of a mechanical obstruction of the upper airways related to redundant soft tissue. The airway obstruction in COPD is related to disease of the airways caused typically from smoking. Hope this helps!!!!

Maybe: Depends on what you are trying to achieve. If nighttime awakening related to COPD is a problem, a bedtime nebulization could be helpful. Otherwise, a scheduled nebulization at night does not normally add any benefit.
