Nephrologist: Cloudy could be protein.  There is also a condition called amourphous sediment.  See a nephrologist.

ive had cloudy urine off and on since december. it comes and goes though during the day, and usually my urine will be cloudy 1-2 times a day, but other times during the day its fine and looks normal. what could be causing this?

: It would be helpful to get a urinalysis when the urine is cloudy-a clean catch specimen would be best. That would give you an answer as to what the abnormality is that is causing cloudy urine. An infection would not come and go throughout the day. Perhaps it is related to your fluid intake-dilute urine looks different than concentrated urine. If it continues, see your doctor for a urine test.

Cloudy urine: This can be due to dehydration, but commonly is due to the sudden change in the pH when it hits the toilet water causing materials otherwise soluble in urine to precipitate out. The may be multiple other causes, including infection, but if you are without symptoms would simply ignore this. Best wishes.

Phosphate crystals?: Your selection of "phosphate" as a topic tag suggests you might already know the answer. The main cause of cloudy urine indeed is presence of phosphate crystals, which results from various combinations of fluid and food intake. It's harmless. You can check it out by adding 1-2 drops of acid (e.g. vinegar) to a sample of cloudy urine. If phostphates, it will immediately turn crystal clear.

But even without this, cloudy urine is almost never abnormal. All people have cloudy urine sometimes, related to diet and fluid intake. Masturbation itself doesn't cause cloudy urine.

Cloudy urine: Cloudy urine can be caused by an infection in the genitourinary tract or may simply be due to insignificant crystals in the urine. Eating cheese does not usually cause cloudy urine. Phosphates in urine may not necessarily be an abnormality. A urinalysis with a microscopic examination as well and a urine culture will give you a lot of information about cloudy urine. Discuss this with your Physician
