The main cause of cloudy urine indeed is presence of phosphate crystals, which results from various combinations of fluid and food intake. It's harmless. You can check it out by adding 1-2 drops of acid (e.g. vinegar) to a sample of cloudy urine. If phostphates, it will immediately turn crystal clear.
