Possibly: A sentinel loop refers to a sign on an x-ray of the abdomen in which a loop of colon or small intestine is dilated and enlarged with gas. It often indicates that there is an area of inflammation in a nearby organ. It may indicate bowel ileus, pancreatic, appendix or gall bladder inflammation (mid-left may be pancreas). However it is only a sign and needs to be part of the whole picture to make dx.

Need more information: As far as the unopacified loops of small bowel this is often mentioned on ct scans because unopacified small bowel can appear thick walled due to non-distention. The radiologist is just saying one cannot be specific about the unopacified small bowel. As far as the lymph node aggregates these would point to infection, inflammation or lymphoma. Depending on their size and location you might discuss the option of biopsy or pet ct.

pain, left of belly button. sharp pain low right pelvis, severe nausea. ultrasound: peristalsing gas containing bowel loops,  lobulated contour left kidney, cortical scarring, possible duplicate collecting system. are these common findings?

I wouldn't say they: are common, but not especially unusual. You list three findings in the kidney...a bit unusual..and I would definitely pursue a kidney evaluation when your acute problem is resolved. But your current symptoms don't especially suggest a kidney cause. Continue to work with the ordering doctor, your primary or Urgent Care/ER provider, for diagnosis and management of your current symptoms. Good wishes

whipple 8/15. severe upper left abd pain, recurrent fever (103), & acute pancreatitis in past 3 weeks. ct says multiple non dilated small bowel loops in abd & pelvis - says gastroenteritis. other possibilities? drs gave no answer for recurrent fever.

Fever: The intestinal loop pattern is nonspecific, in my opinion. I would be concerned about an intraabdominal abscess formation. I recommend that an abdominal surgeon be conducting your care with close collaboration of a gastroenterologist and a radiologist who can suggest other imaging studies likely to shed light on your case. An exploratory operation may be required,however if antibiotics don't help.

Fluid filled : It must be multiple fluid filled bowel loops. This can be normal if pt has no symptoms. If it's a 2 ur old baby please don't be shy to discuss with the pediatrician . Incomplete info to comment

Possibly: if your bowel obstruction was due to adhesions in your abdomen and you have had surgery in the past, then you&#x27;re at continued high risk of having recurrent bowel obstructions due to future  adhesions. If you have abdominal pain, bloating, fevers, or any other symptoms of obstruction, see your doctor immediately.

Obstruction : That radiologic finding is usually a result of a bowel obstruction, but can also be seen sometimes in severe diarrhea. When the bowel is blocked the secretions from your intestines and stomach cannot pass into the colon where the liquid is reabsorbed. This cause the fluid to fill the bowel and stretch it.

It probably: doesn't mean anything unless you are experiencing bowel related symptoms, in which case it may or may not be relevant. It is a nonspecific description indicating that the bowel loops are either within the upper of normal for diameter or possibly dilated.

Folds of the bowels: Your body has about 20 feet of small intestine (small bowel) and 5 feet of large intestine (large bowel).  The intestines are folded and form loops to fit into the abdomen.  Large bowel loop refers to the folds of the large intestine and small bowel loops refers to the folds of small intestine.  This reference is usually made during xray or CT imaging done.
