Pinching: Sharp, shooting chest pains brought on by a deep breath, cough, or certain motions are often due to pinched intercostal nerve or muscle which runs between 2 ribs. This is more of a nuisance rather than anything serious and tends to resolve without any treatment. If symptoms persist, have your physician examine your chest carefully.

recently diagnosed with pvcs (2% burden) and had normal echo months after feeling skipped beats and intermittent left side sharp chest pain. what are the chances of going into cardiac arrest? do i need more tests?

: We consider 10%  significant.  More info about the PVC's would be helpful. Are they singles, couplets,runs,multiform, early after the T wave? Does your 12 lead EKG show a prolonged QTc interval? Do you have a family history of sudden death,fainting episodes? Have you had a treadmill stress test?  Are the PVC's symptomatic? Structurally normal heart is reassuring. See electrophysiology cardiologist

Chest pain: At 19 sharp chest pain likely related to some type of pleurisy or chest wall pain.  GERD another possibility.  although less likely a more serious cause would be PE.
Usually at your age a bop and smoking would need to be involved. cardiac can be cause, but usually associated with drug use at your age.

: In view of associated arm discomfort &amp; for thoroughness&amp; peace of mind,I recommend having a treadmill stress test even though cardiac pathology is an unlikely cause of your symptoms all these years. Your chest pains are nonspecific. I suspect nerve impingement in the upper forearm is the problem. A hand specialist would be best to evaluate you for this. Appropriate testing will be done.

Diagnosis: The cornerstone of treatment is an accurate diagnosis. Impossible here. It could be pleurisy, pericarditis, costochondritis, myofascial syndrome, fibromyalgia to name a few possibilities.

Sharp pain: Recurrent Sharp and fleeting chest pains suggest pinching of an intercostal nerve which runs between two ribs. The pains are brought on by deep breath, cough or other movements of the rib cage. To be sure have a physician examine you to see if the discomfort can be pinpointed to the actual rib cage and not the lungs or heart which I feel is highly unlikely as a cause of your chest pains.

Sounds like pleurisy: Pleurisy is inflammation of lining around the lungs and can be very painful. If bringing up colored phlegm or if fever, could be pneumonia.  Other concern is for a collapsed lung, called a pneumothorax. Best way to tell is see a dr for complete physical and chest xray.

We ask questions, do an examination, then we may do testing. Th" which are are some red flag concerning symptoms _meaning investigate for a dangerous clinical situation. One of them is chest tearing. So, with such a complaint a good evaluation is needed.

Chest Wall Pain: The type of pain you describe seems to be coming from the chest wall either in the muscle or the bones or an inflammation called costochondritis.You can try over the counter aleve (naproxen) or ibuprofen and if pain still persist check with your doctor
