H. Pylori?: Infection with h. Pylori may cause heartburn. Check with your doctor for testing. 
Burning sensation on extremities may be secondary to multiple conditions including diabetes or vitamin deficiencies. I think its time you see a physician for a complete physical exam with labs. Good luck!

Difficult to say: It is difficult to speculate what may be going on with your spouse without a complete history and physical examination to determine what other signs and symptoms they may be experiencing or that can be discovered. I would recommend you start with your primary doctor. A neurology consult may also be beneficial.

: The entrance to the stomach is just left of and behind the heart. Focal sharp/brief or longer pain can be from the irritation caused by backwash of stomach acid at that site. The lay term heart burn is common and well suited.

Different causes: Heartburn can be triggered by caffeine (coffee, tea, soda, chocolate), alcohol, tobacco, mints, citrus foods and sometimes spicy food. It can also occur by laying down too soon after eating. Monitor your intake to identify triggers & then avoid/limit them. Stay upright for about 2 hrs after eating. Talk with your doctor about treatment options too.

Antacid: For instant relief from heartburn an antacid like TUMS or ROLAIDS work the fastest. For persistent heartburn you can use OTC Zantac (ranitidine). Visit: If everything you eat causes this heartburn and nausea, you certainly may try an over-the-counter heartburn medication, ...But you should definitely see your personal physician.  This could be caused by several causes including some that could require a possible surgical fix (gallbladder).  Talk with your physician.

We feed at intervals & the muscular stomach walls squeeze & mix food with stomach acid. If the esophagus opens to accept saliva while the stomach is squeezing, acid is pushed up the esophagus & may burn the walls.Over time this can cause hb.
