will 3t mri be more effective in finding cartilage inflammation in chest and neck, or am i fine with 1.5 t? any considerable differences? any safety concerns between 1.5 t  and 3t?

Accepted Answer

Both: Both are fine. The 3t is a stronger magnet and does produce more high resolution images with  greater detail, but a 1.5t magnet is usually perfectly capable of producing good images for such studies. Some patients have reported strage sensations or even hallucinations in 3t magnets, but this is very rare.

hurt chest surfing, 6/7th rib, closer to the cartilage/sternum. let it rest for 5 weeks, was better, but pain returned, worse lying down. what is it?

? pleurisy: After a significant contusion, such as you experienced, inflammation persists for a long time as the tissues heal. This inflammation may involve the lining of the lung or even the heart and result in pleuritis or pericarditis. Pain with lying down is commonly seen in these conditions. Often it also hurts to take a deep breath. See your doctor...an x-ray may help as well as an ECG/echocardiogram.

hi, sharp pain / discomfort on my left side of the chest, on the rib cage. blood test came negative, x-rays scans found nothing. i was told there was inflammation and i needed to drink more water. pain still persists. ?

Chest pain : While testing seems to be negative, did you have a physical examination? Do you have tenderness of the ribs? Inflammation -? where? more details are needed. My quick guess is you have rib pain.

Costochondritis?: Costochondritis is an inflammation of one or more of the joints that connect the ribs to the breast bone.  The pain tends to radiate along the nerve(s) that travel with the rib(s).  It can be tender to the touch and painful with movement of the arm or compression &amp; expansion of the chest wall.  It's usually treated with anti-inflammatories, ice and relative rest.  It's NOT caused by Hashimoto's.

sports injury, likely costochondritis with separated false rib cartilage slipped up behind another rib. visible chest wall bump, pain at movement. what can i do to get the cartilage back in its proper place? i don't want, and can't afford, surgery?

: difficult to diagnose without imaging. You can guess at the injury, or have a professional look at it and palpate it. surgery may not be needed, but won't know until you get a thorough exam. Self treating by trying to move cartilage or bone can result in a worse injury and long term problems.

i am having 3 rib cartilages removed due to slipping rib syndrome.what should expect during and after surgery? chest tube? collapsed lung ?

Possible : May enter pleura in process.
Small tube during closure then removal or next day removal if no lung damage- leak.

Chest pain: If you have shortness of breath associated with your pain, you probably need the chest xray your doctor advised sooner rather than later.  But if it remains the same, you could wait a bit until it's safe to arrange an outpatient chest xray with your doctor's guidance.

Chronic cough: A number of medical conditions can cause chest pain and chronic cough. In my world of infectious disease, we think about walking pneumonia, bronchitis, whooping cough and TB as some things that could present this way. There are noninfectious causes as well. You should consult with your doctor about these symtpoms.

No: Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor to treat gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. Will decrease the acidity production of your stomach.  Do you have history of sjs or are you in the hospital for that?  Good luck.

FirstCheckYourDiet: If you were older I'd suggest you go get yourself checked ASAP because those kinds of discomforts could be due to a heart problem. Much less likely at your age but not impossible. Because it's when you are eating (or after?) I'd first try and see if it is something specific I'm eating that is the cause, The acid from your stomach could be coming back up. So if this persists, see a doctor.
