Yes: You are playing catchup with the infection and it may take 24-48 hours for enough germs to be killed off for the temperature to start heading down.True strep is universally killed by the penicillin's. Any fever lasting more than 48 hrs may represent a co-infection with something like mono.

As long as Paining: As long as you have pain, it usually lasts 2 to 5 days, but you can taper of one of the pain med as you get better.

i tested positive for strep throat around 3 pm today. i haven't been vaccinated and they didn't perform a covid test. i just took some ibuprophen bc my temperature is currently at 104.3. can i wait to see if my fever goes down or go to the er?

: You can take Ibuprofen every 6 hours for fever and sore throat and ask your doctor for antibiotic tomorrow.

my daughter throat is very red and swollen now she has a pus pocket in the back of her throat her strep test came back negative but she still running fever! will the azithromycin work? im also rotating tylenol and motrin! please anything will help?

Some thoughts: Some of the worst looking &amp; longest symptoms of a sore throat come from viruses like mono. When strep has been excluded as a cause, antibiotics are not necessary &amp; may expose the kid to its side effects. Fever by itself is a natural body response to illness, circulating blood &amp; immune factors faster to aid healing. Fever meds for comfort may be wise but concentration on hydration is worth more.

Be careful: Don`t need to worried, but be careful if you get short of breath or have audible stridor ( heavy wheezy like breathing ).  Go back ti the ER if that happens.

Very unlikely : Many bacterial and viral causes of pharyngitis in a 7 yo with fever and pus on her tonsils, sounds more like EB virus (mononucleosis) rather than bacterial infection.

See Pediatrician: Strep throat often presents with sore throat and fevers. A quick strep test can be done, even at many cvss. If bacterial cultures are negative and it is a virus (often viruses have higher temperature rises than bacterial infections), alternating Acetaminophen with Ibuprofen as prescribed by a pediatrician, cold compresses (keeping the fever low naturally), may help.
