Bacitracin : Bacitracin is not enough to prevent infection. Some swelling is normal, after a bite

Cats carry a bacteria in their saliva. Your skin also carries bacteria on it despite your hands being clean their is a natural bacterial flora on normal skin.

A cat bite is generally a sharp deep puncture that may carry either type of bacteria and since it is deep it is hard to wash out.

The typical antibiotic used for infection after a cat bite  is Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate)  in a non penicillin allergic person. If someone is allergic to penicillins, then the chose is different.

Specifically, pasteurella multocida is the most common bacteria from cat bites that is present in a cats mouth that causes infection in humans but  staph species on the human skin also can also cause infection.

Finally the swelling from the trauma of the bite, may fool all, but its best to be safe and rapid swelling that continues and begins to get red might need not only antibiotics but drainage by a surgeon.

Absolutely: Sounds as if the bite may be secondarily infected. Red streaks signify an ascending cellulitis or lymphadenitis and can become very severe and life-threatening very quickly. Hopefully that is not what this is, but he needs to be seen immediately.  Go to an er. Hope he is better soon.

Get seen: These usually require an antibiotic and the wound may need to be treated as well.  You'll need to find out whether the cat was properly immunized against rabies; if not, you may need the injections.

Anti itch may help.: It is important to prevent scratching by probably using cortisone cream or anti itch cream to reduce chances of scratching that may increase chances of ulcer and infection. You may also try and get mosquito repellant cream to use when outside and wear long sleeves and long pants to reduce area of possible mosquito bites when outside.

No doctor needed: If your dog is up to date on its shots, then there is really nothing that needs to be done at this time. Keep area clean and monitor for any signs of infection such as redness or pussy drainage. If dogs shots are not current, call pediatrician to discuss options.

Quick treatment can prevent progression to the point hand surgery/IV antibiotic treatment for weeks could be required.
