hi there,my dad had a catheter for after urine retention due to known bph about a year back. 4 days later hospital removed it after u/s. i am not sure if they also did u/s of kub. but now he has an apple size urothelial ca in one renal calyx ?

: Your question is not clear. Catheterization for BPH and renal carcinoma are unrelated. If you feel the hospital should have investigated him for renal cancer, that is debatable.

no bph but low urine flow @ night. urlgst wants to insert device into penis to look for block. is that the only next step?  flow only problem at night

Sounds appropriate: Sounds like the urologist wants to get a visual of what might be causing a urinary flow issue. A cystoscopy sounds appropriate, however, you can discuss this with your family doctor or internist, and possibly get another opinion by a second urologist.

been on flomax (tamsulosin) .4mg / day for bph for 2 years. have several side effects. when i stop flomax (tamsulosin) can my urine stream stop entirely? if so what would i do?

Lower urinary tract : There are other medication options, depending on your specific side effects. A urologist would evaluate you for a variety of issues related to your bladder and prostate.

i would like to ask you a question if it is normal for a 40 year old man to have to urunate 1 time every nigth during sleeping hours, if this means he could be suffering from bph? also what about would be the normal urine flow/intensity for him?

See remark: At 40 yrs,BPH is uncommon.Voiding once is not that bad but is not common.Do you drink fluids,alcohol,
coffee,tea,a lot of fruits before bedtime?they all cause your complaint.I don't want to go into detail of flow and intensity which require special instruments.Abstain from excessive fluids at night,if you still are bothered with the one-time getting up @ night,see a urologist

TUMT: Transurethral ultrasound microwave therapy for BPH initially causes a good deal of swelling in the prostate before any actual tissue shrinkage occurs.  Although it typically does not result in a great deal of prostatic shrinkage, there may be a noticeable benefit yet to come.

i have bph. psa was 6.5. biopsy was negative and showed no pre-cancerous cells. psa dropped to 5.5 but urination is still slow. will pomegranate help?

PSA: There are two drugs, one will reduce the size of your prostate and lower your psa (finasteride, dutasteride). The second will relax the smooth muscle of the prostate and improve your flow. I'm not sure pomegranate can do either.

TURP: Surgery by way of turp, photo vaporization of the prostate or plasma vaporization of the prostate, is the most effective way to improve BPH related luts(lower urinary tract symptoms). It results in outcomes far superior to, and more durable than minimally invasive options or medical therapy.

how odd is it to wake up multiple (sometimes as many as 10/11) times during the night to urinate and to need to urinate? is this bph or something more serious?

Peeing at night: In a man most likely BPH but if no symptoms during day I would suspect other problems: low blood K, CHF, eating way too much salt or OSA.  Discuss with your Dr.

: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is most likely cause.  This typically includes acute and/or chronic cystitis,  prostatitis, and urethritis, which would require treatment with antibiotics.  Other potential causes include mass effect from adjacent structures, such as rectal cancer.  Please see your medical provider for definitive diagnosis.
